Hyundai and Kia theft immobilizer settlement pays $375 to $4,500 for thefts after April 29, 2025, receipts required, by March 31, 2027
Last checked July 24, 2026
This is the second Hyundai and Kia theft settlement, and it covers only thefts on or after April 29, 2025. The $9 million multistate deal sets aside $4.5 million for consumers: up to $4,500 for a total loss, up to $2,250 for a partial loss, and up to $375 for an attempted theft. The vehicle must be a 2011 to 2022 model with no factory immobilizer that had the free software upgrade or an appointment for it.
The claim deadline is March 31, 2027. Documentation is required. Thefts before April 29, 2025 belonged to the separate $145 million settlement approved in 2024.
Filing is free on the official site. Payout is a discovery app, not a law firm, and cannot guarantee an amount.
How the payout amount is decided
Payment is tied to your claim type and your paperwork. A total loss claim needs the insurer's total loss letter, proof you paid the deductible, and records of other theft expenses, up to $4,500. A partial loss claim needs the insurer's letter plus expense records, up to $2,250. An attempted theft claim needs a police report and receipts, up to $375. The caps are maximums; you are reimbursed for what you can document. If the $4.5 million consumer pool runs short, amounts can be reduced.
Who qualifies
- You own or lease a 2011 to 2022 Hyundai or Kia without a factory engine immobilizer.
- The vehicle received the free software upgrade or had an appointment scheduled.
- A qualifying theft or attempt happened on or after April 29, 2025, and before the zinc sleeve hardware was installed or March 31, 2027, whichever came first.
