Pfizer agreed to pay $44 million to settle claims from people who bought Chantix tablets later recalled for contamination with N-nitroso-varenicline, a probable carcinogen. Your payment is a pro-rata share based on what you paid out of pocket, and it cannot exceed that amount.

The claim deadline is September 14, 2026. No proof of purchase is required to file, though the administrator can ask for records. The case is MDL 22-MD-3050 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and Pfizer denies wrongdoing.

Filing on the official site is free. Payout is a discovery app, not a law firm, and does not guarantee eligibility or an amount.

How the payout amount is decided

Individual buyers share a consumer pool of up to 20% of the net fund, after fees and costs. Insurers and benefit plans that reimbursed Chantix share the rest.

Inside the consumer pool, each claim is sized by what that person paid for Chantix between September 29, 2015 and September 17, 2021. Higher spending means a larger share. The hard cap is your documented out-of-pocket total, so nobody gets more back than they spent. The FDA recalled all U.S. Chantix tablets in September 2021.

Who qualifies

  • You bought Chantix at retail in the U.S. or its territories between September 29, 2015 and September 17, 2021.
  • You paid some amount out of pocket.
  • Insurers, health plans, and benefits administrators that reimbursed purchases file in the third-party payor group.

When money arrives

Preliminary approval came June 1, 2026. The final approval hearing is October 13, 2026. Payments are distributed after that hearing, once approval is final and appeals are done. Because each share depends on total claimed spending, the administrator cannot compute amounts until claims close.

How to file

At ChantixSettlement.com, complete the online form and self-report your prescription history and out-of-pocket total. Keep pharmacy receipts, insurance statements, or prescription records in case the administrator asks. A paper form can be mailed postmarked by September 14, 2026. Or let Payout file it for you, free.
